How Much CBD is in Your CBD?

I posted a little information about my involvement with CBD Oil a few days ago on social media and was surprised how many people were already trying it or aware of it.

That’s great, but because it’s not one of those “overnight” fixes or cures, it takes some time for your body to start responding to it in a positive way. Everyone varies and everyone is individual.

How to know for sure?….. try it out for yourself and stick with it. Rest assured, there are no “side effects”, and even the subtle changes will be beneficial for you.

How Much CBD is in Your CBD?

One of the comments we hear frequently from prospective clients is…

“I’ve tried CBD and it doesn’t work for me.”

Which always makes us think “what CBD did you take!?” One friend sent us a pic of the bottle and it’s no wonder she didn’t feel it worked for her. The serving sizes were confusing and it also contained several other ingredients that made the oil less effective. So, when wanted to break it down and make it easy for you to understand!


As outlined in a post by MarijuanaBreak, Harvard Medical School’s Dr. Peter Grinspoon recently published an article for Harvard Health Publishing about the potential therapeutic benefits of CBD. In it, he points out that one of the most difficult aspects of understanding CBD dosing is that the compound is not currently recognized as medicine (the changes in the new 2018 Farm Bill may remedy this!)

Because of this, most products are forced to be marketed as “supplements,” which the FDA does not regulate. Hence, why there is no consistency in labeling in products on the markets


Any bottle of CBD oil that you buy should clearly state both the amount of CBD that is contained in milligrams (mg), and the total amount of liquid that’s in the bottle (in mL). That’s one of the biggest problems with choosing CBD is that many bottles have confusing labeling.

Labeling on bottles can be ambiguous either because of the sensitivity of credit card processors, retailers, and marketing or they are selling some sort of snake oil. We disclose how much CBD per bottle as a bold number (i.e. 600, 1200, 3000)


In order to figure out how much CBD you’re actually getting with each dropper, here’s a simple equation you can use:

[Total CBD in Bottle] ÷ [Number of mL in Bottle] = Total milligrams (mg) CBD in Dropper

For example, let’s say you have a 30mL CBD tincture with 600mg of CBD. Here’s how you would break that down:

600mg ÷ 30ml = 20mg of CBD per dropper



Yes, we know it’s confusing which is why we wanted to put this into a blog post!  The following chart gives you an idea of the amount of CBD that’s in each of the brands we carry:


This chart gives you a general idea of suggested amounts based on your condition & weight. Always start slow and increase the dosage until you find the amount that’s right for you.


Here are a few guidelines to help you make your decision about which CBD brand is best for YOU:

  • Read the Label: Check the ingredients – Less is more – your CBD should contain no more than 3 ingredients; typically full spectrum hemp oil, MCT coconut oil, and an organic essential oil if your CBD is flavored. Products are evolving with other ingredients to add distinction so read the label.  If your CBD is cheap it’s either isolates, has very little CBD, or it’s hemp seed oil – another common problem, especially on Amazon.
  • Extraction process: There are several processes out there. We use vapor or steam distillation processing which is similar to how they extract essential oils. Other safe alternatives are ethanol (grain alcohol) or CO2 extraction techniques. They are not certified organic which is why we choose vapor distillation.
  • Check The Source:  Our hemp is sourced from a certified USDA organic hemp farm in Fort Collins, CO. Look for the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from a third party testing lab and always check ratings on a company. We rely on organic ratings through our social assets like Facebook, Google My Business, and Yelp. There are sites that are popping up that are marketing ploys for “vetted” companies. It’s pay to play.


  • Choose full spectrum hemp oil rich in CBD 
    • Studies have proven that there are more health benefits taking full spectrum over CBD isolate products. CBD isolate is chemically refined and has no other cannabinoids. If you have no worries about drug testing for THC we always recommend our Premium Hemp extract – Complete Cannabinoid blend. In addition to all the other wonderful phytonutrients from the hemp plant, there is .3% THC or less in hemp products.
  • Start slow and be consistent 
    • Find out what amount of CBD works for you. Take stock of your symptoms and pain levels. After a week, see how you feel. Is it easier to get out of bed? Are you experiencing pain still when you work out or during physical activity? Are you sleeping better? Keep track of your progress and how much oil you are taking.
  • Stick With It!
    • Often people stop taking CBD oil once they start feeling better. Once your body starts to get into balance, you’ll want to keep it that way. Keep track of what amount works best for you and adjust as needed.
