Comedians and a mental health expert get real about men, emotions and suicide prevention
Mental health struggles don’t discriminate, and when it comes to talking about them, many men still suffer in silence. That’s why we’re bringing the topic to the forefront in a KHOU 11+ Conversation focused on men’s mental health and suicide prevention.
KHOU 11 reporter and anchor Trason Bragg will sit down with a dynamic group of guests — comedians Chinedu Ogu, Will Roberson, and Anthony A who is also co host of Dana Cortez Show on Mix 96.5, along with mental health expert Dr. Donnell Cooper from the National Center for Urban Solutions — for a live, raw, real, and relatable conversation about emotional wellness, breaking stigmas, and where men can turn when they feel like they’re not OK.
From cultural pressures and outdated definitions of masculinity, to finding safe spaces to open up — whether it’s the barbershop, a group chat, or the stage — this conversation doesn’t shy away from the tough questions:
Why do so many men still see mental health as “not for them”?
How do comedians balance laughter and personal pain?
What signs should we look for when someone close to us is struggling?
And how can we make therapy feel less intimidating — and more normal?
#James Donaldson notes: Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes. Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use. Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.#http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticle Find out more about the work I do on my 501c3 non-profit foundation website www.yourgiftoflife.org Order your copy of James Donaldson’s latest book, #CelebratingYourGiftofLife: From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy
