James Speaking on Autozone Incident
I wanted to take a moment to address the situation that was recently in our local Seattle papers.
It had to do with our Mayor Jenny Durkin, coming out publicly and fully backing and supporting the decision made by our Police Chief Carmen Best, in regards to deciding to suspend (instead of terminating) an officer who has had a history of bad behaviors, for only 30 days without pay.
The reason I bring it to our attention is that not only as a professional myself but also as a hopeful Seattle City Councilmember, I expect professionalism, accountability, integrity from all of our elected officials and enforcement officers. At all times!
And, I expect you all to hold me to the same standards.
You can read about this situation and actually watch a video of the camera the police officer was wearing as he stationed himself outside of a store in the central district of Seattle, waiting for a particular individual to come back out and apologized to him. It came down to outright harassment, intimidation, and instead of de-escalating the situation, the situation could’ve easily escalated into something potentially very dangerous for everyone concerned.

We have to hold our elected officials accountable, and the same goes for our enforcement officers and anyone out there protecting and serving the public.
This is our city Seattle! We, the taxpaying, law-abiding citizens who make up our wonderful city, deserve more and deserve better than what we’ve been served with the last several years.
I know I can make a difference on the City Council in a very positive manner. I am running for a seat in District 7 (Pioneer Square, downtown, the waterfront, Magnolia and Queen Anne, and South Lake Union) to bring more professionalism, transparency, integrity, and just good old-fashioned “common sense” to one of our leadership positions here in this wonderful city of Seattle!
If you live in my district, I would appreciate your vote. If you live outside the district, I would definitely appreciate your contributions to my campaign.
