The strategic cooperation with NBA Basketball Celebrity James Donaldson
In Beijing, the afternoon of October 10, 2013, Great Wall International Sports (GIS) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with NBA basketball celebrity – James Donaldson and North America Industrial Investment Co., Ltd. to promote American basketball culture in China. This international cooperation is another develop breakthrough in the international cooperation of GIS that will host a number of professional and exciting activities in China and USA. Great Wall International Sports is one of the longest established sports marketing agencies in China and has been involved in a variety of sports and global events such as the Olympics and World Cup competitions featuring China.
James Donaldson is a Washington State University graduate (’79) and went on to play professional basketball in the NBA with the Seattle Supersonics, San Diego/L.A. Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and Utah Jazz. He also played for several teams in the European Leagues in Spain, Italy, and Greece, and he toured with The Harlem Globetrotters to wrap up his career. James was an NBA All-Star in 1988 while playing center for the Dallas Mavericks. In 2006, James was inducted into the Pac-10 Sports Hall of Fame and also the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2010, James was elected as a board member for the NBA Retired Players Association. James established The Donaldson Clinic in January 1990 with the idea that he would eventually become a physical therapist. He also serves as a coach for other small business owners. Currently, James serves in a position with the Professional Basketball Alumni Association – China (PBA-China), in which his primary role and responsibility is to identify and cultivate basketball related opportunities (i.e.: basketball exhibition tours, training, camps/clinics, sponsorship opportunities and product endorsements, etc.) in China for former NBA basketball players. He also is a consultant with Tsinghua University in China in which he assists in study abroad opportunities, cultural exchange, recruitment of foreign teachers to teach English in China, short/long term programs for Chinese students traveling to USA and abroad.
With the Great Wall International Sports company, James will be instrumental in creating basketball related opportunities for American basketball players coming to China for playing/coaching opportunities as well as recruiting American coaches to come to China to coach the Chinese youth. He will also help to create cultural exchange programs centered around education and sports for the Chinese youth. In 2010, James was the recipient of the NBA Legends of Basketball ABC Award, awarded for outstanding contributions in Athletics–Business–Community.
He believes in being a role model for success and professionalism to the scores of young people to whom he devotes so much of his time. He currently serves on several boards and committees and is a member of many organizations.
