This Sunday is #WorldMentalHealthDay.

It’s recognized internationally as a day to raise awareness, promote education and advocate against the social #stigma surrounding #mentalhealth.

In honor of #WorldMentalHealthDay, #UNICEF just released a critical report, which found that #children and young people could feel the impact of the #pandemic on their #mentalhealth for many years to come.

#UNICEF also said the #pandemic may just be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to #mentalhealth.

More than one in seven kids worldwide are estimated to live with a diagnosed #mentaldisorder, according to the report.

Almost 46,000 kids die from #suicide each year, which is among the top five causes ofd death for their age group, but only 2% of government health budgets are allocated to #mentalhealth spending.

Senior #MentalHealth Technical Advisor at #UNICEF Zeinab Hijazi spoke with PIX11 News to discuss the findings and how it’s uniquely impacting #children.

If you or anyone you know is considering #suicide or need #mentalhealthresources, click here or contact the U.S. #NationalSuicidePreventionLifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255). It is a free, 24/7 service that offers support, information, and local resources. You can also click here for additional hotlines within your state.

#JamesDonaldson notes:

Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.

Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.

Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.  #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticle
